Danielle Walker is Against All Grain
{ Danielle Walker shares her journey to health and tips for wellness through her globally renowned blog, Against All Grain }
American food enthusiast, Danielle Walker, stole our hearts by sharing her journey to health through food on her blog, Against All Grain. Danielle has 2 million page views per month at AgainstAllGrain.com and has a community of over 1 million followers across all of her social platforms! In 2015 she was recognised by Forbes Magazine as one of the “30 Under 30” of today’s brightest entrepreneurs and change agents in the Food and Wine category.
Danielle’s food journey began when she was diagnosed at 22 years old with a severe form of Ulcerative Colitis, an autoimmune disease. After multiple hospitalisations and 18 months of chronic illness, Danielle experimented with dietary changes and found being gluten, grain, legume and dairy free helped her to minimise inflammation and manage her symptoms.
After swapping full-time executive assistant for full-time mom, Danielle began blogging as an outlet while her oldest napped. She found joy in discovering people were positively affected by her journey to health which inspired her to write New York Times bestselling cookbook, Against All Grain. While Danielle has discovered health through a primarily paleo diet, she is passionate about the fact that there is no one perfect diet for everyone.
“Everyone needs to listen to their bodies and watch how what they eat directly correlates with their symptoms. Then they can fine-tune based on their individual needs. I also always strive to create food that will help you eat well, make you feel great and not feel deprived… I’m in an industry where certain diets or workouts are pushed hard, all the time, and it can be a little too abrasive for me at times. I came to this way of eating because it was what was best for me and my body. I try to share my story to help others, but never force it on anyone or make them feel like they are wrong if they don’t eat that way. There’s no one-size-fits-all diet in my opinion,” says Danielle.
Danielle is a busy woman, balancing caring for her two sons and a thriving business! She is always sure to prioritise morning time with the little ones, with cuddles and book reading before breakfast. Most of her work is done while her 6 year old is at school and 1 year old is napping. Her usual work consists of answering emails, checking and responding to social media and nonstop food creations for the blog or upcoming cookbooks!
Danielle has multiple best-selling cookbooks, including Against All Grain: Delectable Paleo Recipes to Eat Well & Feel Great and Against All Grain: Meals Made Simple. After multiple requests for holiday meals and successful eBooks, her audience craved more. Danielle is excited to announce her newest cookbook, Against All Grain: Celebrations: A Year of Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, and Paleo recipes for Every Occasion, launching 27 September worldwide! Celebrations is collection of recipes for events throughout the year.This includes holidays, parties, food traditions, child-friendly birthday parties, finger foods for showers and re-creations of your backyard barbeque favourites.
“When people adopt a new diet for health or personal reasons, they worry most about the parties, holidays, and events with strong food traditions, fearing their fond memories will be lost along with the newly eliminated food groups. As you all know, I suffered for years with a debilitating autoimmune disease and I missed many of those special occasions myself. That sense of loss is what propelled me to revive the joy that cooking for holidays can bring,” Danielle says.
Danielle’s plans for the future include continuing her popular blog and expanding her ever-growing YouTube channel. She is committed to showing her followers how we can optimise our wellness through healthy food choices and learning how to understand our body’s response to foods. As someone who has experienced the devastation that autoimmune illness can wreak on our systems, she can truly empathise with others who experience similar dietary reactions. Danielle is inspired by her readers, so be sure to let her know which dishes you are missing the most for recipe reinventions and share with her how changing your relationship with food has improved your life.
Danielle will be touring the United States for her Celebrations cookbook release and would love to meet you! Be on the lookout for tour dates near you.
