GET KIDS COOKING GLUTEN FREE SHORTCRUST PASTRY

{ THIS EASY GLUTEN FREE SHORTCRUST PASTRY CAN BE USED FOR PIES, TARTS, PASTIES, TWISTS OR SCROLLS.  IT’S A GREAT ONE TO GET YOUR KIDS TO PREPARE AND THEN USE IN A CHRISTMAS PIE – LOOK FOR THE GET KIDS COOKING MINI TURKEY POT PIES RECIPE FOR A SIMPLE WAY TO TURN LEFTOVERS INTO A DELICIOUS SNACK OR LIGHT MEAL.   }

{ INGREDIENTS }

2/3 cup butter or nuttelex

1 cup Gluten Free flour

1/4 cup cold water

Extra flour for dusting the bench

{ METHOD }

Cut up butter into small pieces

Place flour in a bowl and add butter

Toss butter through the flour

Rub butter pieces in flour to form small crumbs

Make a well in the centre and add water

Use a pastry scraper to work the flour into the mix until roughly combined

Dust the work bench with extra gluten free flour

Tip out dough and knead for 2 minutes by using the palm of your hand to push it away from you, spreading the dough out thin, then rolling it back together into a ball and repeating

Roll pastry into a ball, wrap in plastic and place in fridge (for at least 30 minutes) before using.  Keep in fridge while you make filling for Get Kids Cooking Mini Turkey Pot Pies.

Knife, Chopping board, Large bowl, Pastry scraper, Plastic wrap, Measuring cups

 

Note: Refrigerate for 30 mins and use straight away or make ahead of time and store in the fridge for up to up to 5 days until needed.
