{ A PROTEIN BALL NOT PACKED WITH DATES? THIS PLAYFUL NEW PRODUCT IS ONE TO GET AMONGST! }
BE A BALLER WITH FULL FILLED CO.
Protein balls made without the dates? In the health food industry, this is a revolutionary concept that sisters Danielle and Melissa Fenner-Smith embraced with their cheeky new business, Full Filled Co. However, that’s not how it all began… yum. sits down with these baller sisters to learn about why you should buy their balls!
ygf: Hi ladies! Tell us about yourselves.
Hi yum.! We’re two sisters who have been brought up with really health conscious parents, and therefore we’re both passionate about continuing to live a healthy lifestyle.
ygf: What does a normal day in the life of a baller look like?
We start the day with an early morning F45 training session, it wakes us up and gets us motivated to get the ball rolling, literally. We are in the process of outsourcing the making of our product, which we’re so excited about, as it means we’ll be able to put a lot more time into working on growing the business, Full Filled Co. The remainder of our day is usually a mix of emails, social media planning, invoicing and all the other glamorous things that come with running a business.
ygf: You go girls! Tell us about your business, Full Filled Co.
We’ve worked really hard to create a truly healthy everyday snack that tastes good and keeps you wanting more. We did this by pulling inspiration from unhealthy products when working on our flavours. We didn’t want people to feel like they were missing out when going with a healthier option.
The Full Filled Co. protein ball is gluten free, refined sugar free, grass-fed whey protein, 100% natural and preservative free. They are a healthy on-the-go snack that will keep you looking and feeling great, allowing you to take on your day like a baller. We’ve had many great reviews from health bloggers and influencers, who have also mentioned how difficult it is to find protein balls that aren’t sweetened with dates. The balls now come in convenient packaging – perfect to have sitting on your desk throughout the working day, or rolling around in the gym bag.
The two playful new flavours – Gold Digger (salted peanut butter) and Hazel & Gretel (chocolate hazelnut) – were launched in 5-pack tubes on Sunday the 24th September and are available online here: http://www.fullfilledco.com.au
ygf: That is fantastic. Why are your products gluten free?
If you can make your product available to the growing number of people with coeliac disease, then why wouldn’t you? No one should have to miss out!
ygf: Agreed! How did your business begin?
It began, not with our protein balls, but by seeing a niche in the market for healthy corporate catering. To help bring in consistent income while building up the catering, we decided to start wholesaling one of our menu items (our balls) to cafes around Melbourne. This seriously took off so we veered from our original direction/business plan and decided to put 100% of our focus into the balls!
ygf: Wow, talk about listening to the market. Great job in having the confidence to make that leap. What’s the best part about your business?
All the amazing people you get to meet along the way… You can’t beat the health-focused foodie community in Melbourne.
ygf: What makes you unique?
We’ve had a great response to creating a protein ball that’s not made from a base of dates and coconut, which really sets us apart from other balls on the market.
ygf: What a great alternative for a booming industry. Any funny stories you’d like to share?
Just after starting our business we realised that we had already done this before. When we were primary school aged we would melt down blocks of chocolate to the point of burning, roll the mixture into balls, package them in cellophane bags and sell them for $2 in a nearby tourist area. It’s funny how life has put us back on track, hopefully our balls taste a little better these days!
ygf: Entrepreneurs from the start! What’s your favourite food?
We both have a massive sweet tooth, but one of our favourite go-to comfort meals is a great bolognaise on either a gluten free pasta or zucchini spirals.
ygf: What’s one word that sums you up?
Ballers
ygf: What’s your #1 health tip?
Keeping a balance. There’s no need to deprive yourself of foods you love, it’s just about being aware of what you’re fuelling your body with the majority of the time and making those choices healthy ones.
ygf: Anything exciting in the pipeline?
We have lots of ideas; it’s just about finding the time to make them a reality. In the short term though, expect to see some great healthy recipes featuring our balls! Stay in touch!
